Bukom Banku’s Son, Ambitious Tilapia Advances to Final, Aims for Gold Medal at African Games

In the ongoing 2023 African Games boxing events, Abubakar Kamoko, also known as Ambitious Tilapia and son of former boxer Braimah Kamoko, famously known as Bukom Banku, has secured a spot in the final. Abubakar achieved this feat by defeating DR Congo’s Nathan Nlandu in the Cruiserweight division with a split decision.

This victory sets him up to compete for the gold medal on the final day of boxing, a milestone his father could not achieve in his career, settling for bronze in 1999 in South Africa.

In another exciting match, Samuel Takyi, a 2020 Olympic Games medalist, had a relatively smooth victory against South Africa’s Paul Masamba in the light Welterweight class. Takyi secured a win via a majority decision (4-1), demonstrating his readiness to claim the gold medal.

Expressing his determination, Takyi stated, “It’s the time for me [to win gold]. I’ve been in the semis twice and I lost those bouts. I’ve come back stronger and this time I won my semi-final match. I’m going to make it, and I know my God is with me. I’m going to take gold on Friday.”
