The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a warning to the public to brace for more power outages during peak hours, specifically from 7 pm to 11 pm. This caution comes as a result of 630 distribution transformers being identified as full to capacity within communities across ECG’s operational areas due to increased power demand.
The strain on these transformers could lead to blown fuses and broken conductors, resulting in outages, particularly during the peak load period. In response, ECG reassured customers that transformer upgrading and new projects are underway to alleviate the strain and ensure a more reliable power supply.
Affected customers are urged to report any localized outages or voltage fluctuations to the ECG Call Center or through their social media handles for prompt rectification. The company also called for the support and patience of affected customers as they work to improve Ghana’s power distribution system.
Earlier this month, ECG’s Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama, attributed the frequent power disruptions (dumsor) to maintenance issues. He emphasized that since the company works with machines, malfunctions can occur at any time, causing inconvenience to customers.
