$195 Million Invested in Infrastructure for 13th African Games – Sports Minister Confirms

Mustapha Ussif, the Youth and Sports Minister, has confirmed that Ghana has spent a total of $195 million on infrastructure development in preparation for the upcoming 2023 African Games.

The Games, scheduled to take place from March 8 to March 23, will be centered at the Borteyman Sports Complex and University of Ghana Stadium, with additional support from 15 other venues.

During a press briefing on Monday, March 4, 2024, Minister Ussif provided a detailed breakdown of the infrastructure expenditure.

The largest portion, $145 million, was allocated to the construction of a state-of-the-art sports center at Borteyman. Additionally, $34 million was used for renovating the University of Ghana Stadium, and $16 million was earmarked for refurbishing the Games Village.

Minister Ussif reiterated the government’s commitment to developing national athletes, announcing plans to convert the Borteyman Sports Complex into a sports university. This initiative aims to support the growth and nurture the talents of Ghana’s aspiring sports stars.
