NDC to Announce Mahama’s Running Mate Today

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is poised to announce its vice-presidential candidate for the upcoming 2024 general elections, to run alongside presidential nominee John Dramani Mahama, by February 29, 2024.

This information was shared by the party’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Daniel Oduro on the Election Desk on February 28, 2024.

Gyamfi indicated during the interview that a formal announcement could be expected later in the week, pending finalization of the decision by the council of elders and the national executive committee of the NDC.

“We anticipate making a formal announcement tomorrow once the decision is finalized, subject to the advice of the Council of Elders and the national executive committee. I am confident that this decision will resonate not only with our grassroots but also with the entire nation,” he stated.

Gyamfi also mentioned that the presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, had been considering and consulting on the matter for some time and had made his choice.

“The presidential candidate has been reflecting and seeking input on this issue. He has made his decision, but in accordance with the party’s constitution and processes, he must seek the formal advice of the Council of Elders and present it to the National Council of the party, which is the second-highest decision-making body, before the announcement is made,” he explained.

“He is very clear about who he wants as his running mate to complement him and carry out his vision,” Gyamfi added.
