Ghana Set to Ban Raw Bauxite Export – President Akufo-Addo

In a bid to bolster Ghana’s industrialization efforts, President Akufo-Addo has revealed plans to introduce legislation prohibiting the export of raw bauxite. This announcement came during his State of the Nation Address to the 8th Parliament.

President Akufo-Addo outlined the government’s commitment to the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation’s Four Project Agenda. He noted that Projects 1 and 2 are already underway, with an agreement recently signed for Project 3. As part of this initiative, a Legislative Instrument will be presented to Parliament during its current session, aiming to curb the export of raw bauxite.

Additionally, the President highlighted ongoing discussions towards establishing a $450 million refinery to process manganese domestically. This move aligns with Ghana’s strategy to add value to its natural resources and stimulate industrial growth.
