A tragic incident unfolded in Walewale, located in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region, where a robbery attack has resulted in the loss of one life and left eight others wounded.
The victim, identified as Bilal Rabiu, a 37-year-old mobile money vendor, succumbed to gunshot wounds inflicted by armed assailants at approximately 6:30 pm on Monday, at the Walewale-Nalerigu intersection. Among the injured is a seven-year-old girl, with eight individuals sustaining critical injuries.
According to Bilal Yussif, the brother of the deceased and the assemblyman for the Bokuduri electoral area, the harrowing incident unfolded as multiple gunshots were heard in the vicinity around the aforementioned time. Shortly thereafter, Bilal Rabiu was rushed to the Walewale government Hospital in a tricycle, with severe gunshot wounds.
Despite efforts to save his life, Bilal Rabiu succumbed to his injuries at approximately 9 am the following morning while receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he and the other injured victims were referred for further medical attention.
Describing the extent of the injuries sustained by his brother, Bilal Yussif highlighted the severity of the wounds, including exposed intestines, deep cuts to the arms, and gunshot wounds to various parts of the body.
Eyewitnesses reported that two unidentified gunmen on a motorbike arrived at the junction, targeting Bilal Rabiu, whom they shot and stabbed. At present, the body of the deceased is being transported to Walewale for burial.
