Abdullah Mohammed, a 20-year-old individual implicated in the robbery and killing of a 74-year-old stroke sufferer, Alice Kakari, has been sentenced to five decades of imprisonment for the theft.
The verdict was delivered by His Honor Oheneba Kuffour at the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court.
Yet, legal proceedings concerning the murder accusation are ongoing, and Mohammed remains in custody awaiting further hearings. On January 25, 2024, the prosecution alleged that Mohammed robbed and murdered Alice Kakari after she sought assistance.
Per the prosecution’s account, Mohammed bound the elderly lady, slashed her throat, and looted her three-bedroom residence, making off with valuables and an unspecified amount of cash. This tragic event unfolded near the Ballon Hotel in Awutu Senya East, Central region.
Reportedly, footage from a surveillance camera installed in Alice Kakari’s home captured the suspect, facilitating his identification and subsequent apprehension.
In the aftermath of the court’s ruling, Gifty Obenewaa Yeboah, one of the deceased’s daughters, expressed a blend of emotions. While she acknowledged some solace in the sentencing, she mourned her mother’s loss and stressed the importance of justice prevailing in the murder case.
“Indeed, 50 years is adequate because he has inflicted so much anguish upon us. We also anticipate the resolution of the murder case. He must face appropriate consequences,” she conveyed to Adom News.
