“I Was Only Presenting Facts, Not Endorsement” – Kofi Bentil Clarifies Remarks on Vice President Bawumia

Kofi Bentil, Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, has offered clarification regarding his recent remarks about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stressing that he was solely presenting what he believed to be factual information ahead of the Vice President’s address to Ghanaians.

In an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, February 10, Bentil emphasized the importance of disseminating accurate information, highlighting that while presenting facts is crucial, convincing people is a separate matter.

His comments follow a statement he made about Dr. Bawumia before his address to the nation on Wednesday, February 7, in which he endorsed him as the best Vice President ever, underscoring his non-corrupt character and effectiveness in implementing significant transformations.

Addressing disagreements stemming from his remarks, Bentil clarified, “I just hoped to put out what I believed are facts” about the Vice President. He emphasized that his endorsement of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer is a personal conviction and does not reflect IMANI-Africa’s official position.

Bentil made it clear that IMANI-Africa has not released any statement declaring their endorsement of the Vice President. He explained that IMANI-Africa only issues statements when they have specific information or perspectives to communicate, reiterating that the organization does not engage in endorsing political candidates but rather focuses on its designated tasks.

Highlighting his individual status apart from his role at IMANI-Africa, Bentil emphasized that his statements should not be conflated with the organization’s stance unless explicitly stated otherwise. He emphasized that IMANI-Africa is transparent about its communications and does not shy away from taking ownership of its statements, regardless of their controversial nature.
