Interpol has officially listed Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, as wanted on its website.
This action follows a notice from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which re-declared Ofori-Atta as wanted after he failed to appear for an interrogation scheduled on June 2.
At a press conference held the same day, the Special Prosecutor announced that steps had been taken to place Ofori-Atta on an Interpol Red Notice, and extradition proceedings are currently in motion to have him returned to Ghana.
Ofori-Atta is under investigation in connection with several major corruption-related cases, including:
1. Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance
Alleged irregularities in a contract between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority.
2. Electricity Company Contract Termination
Issues surrounding the cancellation of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).
3. National Cathedral Project
Concerns over procurement processes and financial management related to the construction of the National Cathedral.
4. Ambulance Procurement
Allegations of misconduct in a Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited involving the procurement and maintenance of 307 ambulances.
5. GRA Tax P-Fund Management Questions surrounding the disbursement and oversight of funds from the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Tax P-Fund Account.
Interpol has listed the primary charge against Ofori-Atta as “using public office for profit.”
