Chairman Wontumi Cleared of Allegations by Kumasi Traditional Council

In a recent development, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has been cleared of alleged derogatory remarks made against the Asantehene during the NPP parliamentary vetting process. The decision was reached by the Kumasi Traditional Council, which dismissed the claims and called for a resolution between the parties involved.

Chairman Wontumi, who vehemently denied all allegations leveled against him by the Kokosuhene, Nana Kwaku Duah, appeared before the Kumasi Traditional Council alongside party executives and government officials, including Majority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, National Chairman Stephen Ntim, and General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua.

During the hearing, Chairman Wontumi asserted that the accusations were false, malicious, and did not accurately represent the events that transpired during the vetting process. Despite Nana Kwaku Duah’s defense of his allegations, the Kumasi Traditional Council dismissed the claims and urged both parties to settle their disputes without involving the Asantehene.

Bantamhene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, delivering the judgment, cautioned chiefs to refrain from engaging in political activities during the campaigning for the 2024 general elections. He emphasized that Chairman Wontumi should be set free without facing any charges.

While clearing Chairman Wontumi of the allegations, the Kumasi Traditional Council also called for calm in the region as it prepares to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Asantehene. This resolution marks a significant turn of events in the controversy surrounding Chairman Wontumi and underscores the importance of resolving political disputes in a manner that upholds traditional values and fosters peace within the community.
