Gambia National Team Head Coach, Tom Sainfait, has officially stepped down from his position following The Gambia’s 3-2 defeat to Cameroon in the recent AFCON group stage match. The loss marks the end of The Gambia’s journey in the competition after their impressive run in the previous edition.

Addressing reporters in a post-match conference, Coach Sainfait stated, “This marks my final game with the Gambian team, and I will remain with them for a brief period. I believe now is the appropriate moment for me to resign and move forward. I extend my gratitude to the Gambia Football Federation President. The outcome didn’t surprise me; the Ivorians knew they had an advantage if we won, and they supported us.”

Reflecting on the match, Sainfait remarked, “There is a rivalry between the two countries, and I think it was only one goal that made the difference. We played a better game than we did against Cameroon. Despite Cameroon’s strong lineup and experience, The Gambia emerged victorious in spirit.”

The coach acknowledged the significance of such games, noting, “Such matches are a victory for us.” As he bids farewell to the Gambian team, Sainfait expressed appreciation for the support and emphasized the positive aspects of the team’s performance in the tournament.
