It is Difficult to Link Binduri Killings to Bawku Conflict, Says Binduri DCE Ayinga Abagre

Ayinga Abagre Yakubu, the District Chief Executive of Binduri local assembly, has emphasized the difficulty in establishing a direct connection between the recent killings in the district and the longstanding conflict in Bawku. The incident unfolded when unknown assailants brutally attacked a group of traders en route from Bawku to Binduri, resulting in the tragic death of five individuals.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Mr. Yakubu pointed out that the specific location of the attack complicates the assessment of its potential linkage to the Bawku conflict. He underscored the importance of a thorough investigation to unravel the facts surrounding the killings.

“It is difficult to connect it to the Bawku conflict, and we can’t also rule it out. That is why it is important for an investigation to be conducted for us to establish the facts about the killings,” stated Mr. Yakubu.

He further revealed that the assault occurred on the outskirts of the town as the traders’ vehicle was ambushed. The survivors of the attack scattered, with some seeking refuge in inaccessible locations, hindering efforts to gather comprehensive information about the incident.

“The people were not yet at the market, and the vehicle was ambushed on its way from Bawku to Binduri, resulting in the killing. Some of them escaped, some were injured and are responding to treatment, and some have also been referred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital,” he explained.

Describing the market as a rural hub where traders procure goods to sell in Bawku, Mr. Yakubu highlighted the challenges in reaching those who managed to escape the attack. He mentioned that ongoing police investigations aim to locate these individuals and gather crucial information to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
