Following the disappointing performance of Ghana’s Black Stars in their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener against Cape Verde, renowned reggae and dancehall artist Shatta Wale has voiced his discontent in a social media video.
In the video, the multiple award-winning artist directed his criticism towards officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), suggesting a name change for the national football team. Shatta Wale proposed renaming the team ‘Black Soil,’ citing their perceived inability to produce noteworthy results.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Shatta Wale argued, “How can a star be black? Name the team Black Soil so they can at least produce something because black soils are the best.”
This critique comes on the heels of Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde in the opening match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Shatta Wale’s suggestion adds a unique perspective to the ongoing discussions surrounding the team’s performance and potential changes that might enhance their future endeavors in the tournament.
