The Ada East District Assembly has strongly refuted claims made by the local miners association operating at Songor, suggesting that the assembly intended to render its members homeless through relocation from the Songor lagoon concession.

The salt miners were given a notice to vacate the Ada East sector of the Songor lagoon concession by December 31. This directive was issued following the eviction deadline for Electrochem Ghana’s mining operations. Despite this, the miners have voiced their determination to resist the assembly’s directive.

In an interview with **Citi News**, Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, the District Chief Executive of Ada East, clarified that residential facilities along the concession would remain undisturbed.

Pobee assured the local miners that Electrochem Ghana is committed to providing them with necessary support to sustain their livelihoods within the region. She emphasized, “Nobody is evicting them, and they are not going to relocate anybody. The houses that are there are going to remain there forever. The ponds that they are going to create will not affect any house. So the excuse that they are giving is not valid, and I think Electrochem is ready to give them anything they want in exchange for what they are doing because they don’t want to take their livelihoods from them.”
