GFA to Decide the Fate of Black Stars Coach Chris Hughton on Friday

In a recent development, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reportedly reached a decision regarding the future of Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton. According to Atsu Tamakloe, sources indicate that the decision to relieve Hughton of his duties will be finalized during Friday’s Exco meeting. However, the GFA is awaiting government approval, as any compensation involved would be funded by them. The verdict, whether approving or disapproving the decision, is expected to be communicated today, Thursday.

Hughton, whose contract extends until February 2024, is said to be aware of the impending decision, with close sources to the manager confirming his acknowledgment. The GFA leadership is reportedly unconvinced about Hughton’s ability to secure victories in the upcoming two World Cup qualifying matches against Madagascar and Comoros. The stakes are high, as these victories are seen as crucial for Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. It is emphasized that if the concern was solely focused on the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Hughton might have retained his position.
