Osofo Kyiri Abosom Calls for Non-Intellectual Leadership in Ghana

Christian Kwabena Andrews, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, the Leader and Founder of the Life Assembly Worship Centre, and head of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has expressed his belief that it’s time for individuals without formal education, whom he referred to as “illiterates,” to take the reins of leadership in Ghana. According to Kyiri Abosom, the country has suffered under the governance of intellectual elites.

In an interview with Kasapa FM, Kyiri Abosom argued that the intellectual elite, if allowed to rule the nation, lack the necessary vision and may inadvertently harm the country. He drew a historical parallel, mentioning that in the past, uneducated individuals were selected from the Ashanti region for warfare, as their common sense and practical knowledge served them well in those situations. He further highlighted that during the presidency of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, many of his appointees were not highly educated, yet they were instrumental in spearheading important developmental projects like the Akosombo Dam.

Kyiri Abosom emphasized that past presidents, such as Busia and President Akufo-Addo’s father, who was a lawyer, failed to achieve the same level of success in terms of development as leaders with less formal education. He pointed out the need to give opportunities to those with practical wisdom and common sense to contribute to the nation’s progress.

Kyiri Abosom, who ran as the presidential candidate for GUM in the 2020 elections, is considering participating in the 2024 elections, potentially bringing this unconventional perspective on leadership to the forefront of Ghanaian politics.
