In a harrowing incident, Legon Cities, a Ghana Premier League club, fell victim to an armed robbery attack on the Bibiani-Kumasi highway. The team had just suffered a defeat in an away match against Samartex before encountering this unfortunate and distressing situation.

The match ended in a devastating 3-0 loss for Legon Cities, compounding the disappointment for the players. However, the real blow came when armed robbers ambushed their team bus. According to a statement released by the club, the robbers fired three bullets at the front bulletproof glass of the bus while the driver navigated through the chaotic scene of gunshots.

Fortunately, no individuals sustained any injuries during the terrifying ordeal. The only damage incurred was to the team’s bus. Currently, the entire team is reported to be safe and unharmed in Obuasi.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of a similar occurrence involving Ashanti Gold SC last year. The team was also targeted by armed robbers while returning from Accra near Assin Endwa.

These armed robbery attacks on Ghana Premier League clubs raise significant concerns and demand immediate attention. The safety and security of players and staff should be a top priority, and thorough measures need to be implemented to address this alarming trend.
