In a recent development, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has delivered a crucial message to the latest cohort of inducted lawyers, urging them to maintain the ethical principles that define the legal profession and conduct themselves in a manner befitting legal practitioners.
The Chief Justice imparted this guidance during the 60th induction ceremony, a longstanding tradition observed since the inception of the Ghana School of Law. The event marked the induction of 1097 newly qualified lawyers who had successfully passed the bar exams, taking place at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Justice Torkornoo emphasized the pivotal role of integrity in shaping the future success of these legal professionals in their chosen careers.
“As lawyers, you will need to be part of the conduit through which justice is served and delivered in this complex environment,” Justice Torkornoo affirmed.
“In shouldering this role as individuals of erudition, you will always need to bear in mind that a lawyer’s personal reputation is their most invaluable asset.”
The Chief Justice underscored that the way lawyers communicate, listen, handle sensitive information, and manage interpersonal relationships will significantly influence the legacy they carry throughout their legal careers.
“Whether you are cognizant of it or not, your reputation, right from the moment you don the legal robe and accompanying attire, will be constructed on the bedrock of trust, honesty, and a steadfast commitment to ethical standards, in addition to your academic knowledge,” Justice Torkornoo concluded.
