Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey Successfully Called to the Bar

On Friday, October 20, 2023, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, was formally admitted to the bar, along with 1,092 newly qualified lawyers. The admission ceremony took place at the Accra International Conference Centre and was attended by a significant audience of distinguished guests, including Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, members of the diplomatic corps, and family and friends of the newly minted barristers.

In a post on her social media account, formerly known as Twitter, the Foreign Affairs Minister expressed her gratitude, writing, “Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey Esq. Grateful and thankful.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration also used its social media platform to extend congratulations to the former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, stating, “Congratulations to Hon. Minister on being called to the Bar!”

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, born on February 8, 1963, was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on January 10, 2017. She previously served as a Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom from 2013 to 2021 and held positions as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State at the Ministry of Water Resources, Works, and Housing during John Kufu’s administration.
