According to a recent interview with Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he believes that the party cannot win the 2024 general elections with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer. Agyapong expressed concerns about the internal politics within the party, which he claims has led to escalating violence during internal party elections. He also alleged that seven Ashanti Regional MPs had been promised the vice presidential slot by Bawumia, which he believes is causing division within the party.
Agyapong argued that if Bawumia becomes the party’s flagbearer, it would likely lead the NPP into opposition. He emphasized his determination to resist any actions that might push the party into opposition, stating that he won’t allow it to happen. Agyapong questioned how Bawumia could beat John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the general elections, citing Bawumia’s utterances and the perceived greed and selfishness within the party.
In addition to Agyapong and Bawumia, there are three other contenders for the NPP flagbearership slot: Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Dr. Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
