IGP Sued by 40 Chief Inspectors for Failing to Promote Them

IGP Dampare

Forty Chief Inspectors in the Ghana Police Service have taken legal action against Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. They allege that the service has unjustly denied them promotions, despite having served for 25 to 30 years, and that their junior colleagues have been promoted through a special amnesty.

The officers are seeking a court order to grant them access to the Police Academy and to compensate for their lost income due to the lack of promotion.

Additionally, the IGP and three senior police officers are currently under investigation by a parliamentary committee for their involvement in a leaked tape discussing the IGP’s removal. The committee is scheduled to resume its proceedings on October 2, 2023.
