The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed over-computed figures of registrants from two districts in the Ashanti Region submitted to its headquarters.
The Regional Director, Mr Benjamin Bannor Bio, explained that the anomaly was detected in returns for the first six days for Sekyere South and Offinso North after electoral officers failed to file daily reports but rather submitted accumulated figures.
The explanation given by Mr Bannor Bio is in response to accusation by the NDC that the EC is stuffing figures in favour of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr. Bannor Bio however stated that the situation has already been ratified together with political parties’ agents at the various centres.
Speaking to the media to set the record straight, Mr. Bio attributed the situation to lack of communication between the Electoral Officers and the political parties’ agents.
He added that “the NDC regional secretary Kwame Zu personally called me and l explained everything to him on phone so I am surprised that they continue to see it as a big case”.
“All tabulated figures remains provisional and has no direct consequences on the final figures which would be automatically generated by the registration machines after the exercise”, Mr Bannor Bio explained.
He therefore assured all interested stakeholders of much transparency in the ongoing exercise.
