The Minister for Youth and Sports and Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori, Mustapha Ussif was rushed to the Parliament Clinic last night after the infamous fight among MPs during the e-levy bill voting.
According to the First Deputy Majority Chief Whip and MP for Tolon, Iddrisu Habib, the Sports Minister who bled profusely from a wound on the forehead was treated for what believed to be “a cut from a sharp razor blade.”
It is unclear how a sharp blade found its way into the parliamentary chamber, let alone to be employed during a fistfight involving educated adults who were expected to settle matter through dialogue and mutual respect.
Videos circulating on social media after the brawl show the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif alongside other MPs on the Majority side exchanging hot punches with their counterparts on the Majority side.
We suspect that it was two dirty slaps which landed straight on Hon. Ussif’s face from South Dayi MP, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor that became his undoing, despite having initially exhibited his strength by delivering some beautiful jabs on Nii Lamtey Vanderpuije, the Odododiodio MP.
We are unable to confirm whether or not the Hon. MP for South Dayi MP, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor or another Member of Parliament who exchanged the blows with Hon. Mustapha Ussif wielded a razor blade and used same to inflict the wound on the Sports Minister.
However, the First Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Iddrisu Habib who spoke in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM this morning maintained that the degree of the injury rules out the possibility that it was from mere slaps; “they used a razor blade to cut his head,” he insisted.
The Sports Minister was discharged from the Parliament Clinic after receiving treatment last night.
