Nantes have confirmed the signing of Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella on a free transfer after his contract expired at Anfield.
The 23-year-old moved to Liverpool in 2015 after being plucked from Valencia’s academy but failed to make an impact on the first team.
Chirivella made just 11 first team appearances in his five years with the Reds, with most of those outings coming in cup competitions.
His substitute appearance against MK Dons in the League Cup back in September was his first in three years and the last time he featured in the first team.
It also landed Liverpool in hot water with the FA after it emerged he was ineligible to play as he didn’t have international clearance, resulting in the club being fined £200,00.
He will now spend the next three seasons with Nantes, who finished 13th in the Ligue 1 table after France’s top flight season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A tweet on Nantes’ official Twitter account said: “Welcome home @pedrochb97. You’ll never walk alone.”
Despite not making the breakthrough at Anfield, Chirivella has amassed first team experience during his loan spells at Dutch sides Go Ahead Eagles and Willem II.
He also signed for Spanish club Extremadura in January 2019 but wasn’t able to play for the club after his paperwork was filed after the transfer deadline.
