Barcelona goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen says he expects to be able to complete the season but concedes it will depend on the Spanish government giving LaLiga the go-ahead to resume.

LaLiga has been halted since March due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Barça two points clear of Real Madrid with 11 games still to be played.

Barça returned to training this week ahead of a possible restart date of June and Ter Stegen told ESPN about his feelings returning to work following eight weeks in confinement at his home.

“We finally began individual training back at the training ground on Friday,” he said. “It’s great to be back at work. Everyone expects to finish the season but, of course, we depend on the government’s instructions.

“We will do everything possible to respect and follow them. I am looking forward to playing games again. When they call, I will be there, although it might take some preparation to return to match fitness.

“You can’t compare the individual work we’ve been doing at home with the specific work on the pitch, but give me the ball and I will try to make the best of the situation!”

In the article, Ter Stegen also discussed the surreal situation the world — not just football — finds itself in and also opened up about his personal life during the lockdown in Spain.
