Legon Cities FC skipper Fatau Dauda has revealed that he failed at Orlando Pirates because it was difficult to replace Senzo Meyiwa as number one.
Fatau Dauda joined the South Africans in 2013 from Ghanaian side AshantiGold SC, but only managed three appearances before leaving the club to join Chippa United.
Speaking to GTV Sports Plus, the former Orlando Pirates stopper said, “I went at the time where the goalkeeper (Senzo Meyiwa) was the captain, thus Senzo.”
Meyiwa, who was murdered in 2014 in South Africa, was the number one goalkeeper of Pirates and also the first choice for the Bafana Bafana.
“I learnt a lot from him (Senzo), in fact he was one of the best in the South African League at that time and he had earned a call-up to the South African National team,” he added.
The 35-year-old spent two years in South Africa before returning to Ashantigold, where he helped the Miners win the 2015 Ghana Premier League.
He is currently the captain of Legon Cities FC.
