There have been grave worries that the country is falling into the abyss as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appears to be struggling to get things fixed.

The conveners and some unhappy Ghanaians on Twitter have been venting their anger over what they say is the failure on the part of successive administrations to improve the lives of the citizenry through the hashtag “#Fixthecountry”.

Tens of thousands of posts have been made on social media highlighting some of the challenges with the Ghanaian economy.

The online protest has been trending for the past 72 hours amid rival campaigns highlighting the achievement of the Akufo-Addo administration.

“…the event, which is a single purpose event, is being organized on the back of a string of consistently broken promises by successive governments; and in the exercise of our democratic rights as citizens to express our frustration over perennial Governmental incompetence, refusal, and/or inability to fix the country,” the group said in their notice to the police.

“The Organizers believe, as does the President, that democracy is not a spectator sport. We are committed to improving the substance of governance in this country by ensuring that the ordinary voices of Ghanaians provide a mechanism to hold elected officials accountable.

“There comes a point where enough is enough. Just fix the Country!!! That’s our only message. We have had it with purposeful deceit and the absence of truth and genuine accountability in how this country is being governed,” the group added.

The protest will see demonstrators walk from the Black Star Square Accra to Maxmart, 37.
