Death Trap: Residents of Abensu Lament On Poor Bridge Linking Two Communities [Photos+Video]

The residents of Abensu, a community in the Torbu Constituency have bemoaned over their footbridge which has been left unattended for years.

The death trap bridge links two communities to Pokuase in Accra. The communities are Abensu and Teacher-Korpe.

The footbridge which is almost at the point of collapsing is being used by students who attend Pokuase DA Cluster of School and residents who commute to and back from work.

Residents seen walking on the deadly bridge to their various work, and will use the same bridge when coming back home.

Students walk on this deadly bridge everyday to attend school at Pokuase and use it when returning home.

An eye-witness who visited the community to check on his mother, took photos and video of the deadly bridge after sighted on it.

He gave account of the abandoned bridge for years as he got in touch some residents.

According to the story, a man identified as Kampala stays close to the bridge and he has been rescuing students who fall into the stream when the bridge collapses.

After sometime, he decided to take it on himself to help rebuild the bridge. He solicited for some funds from the residents of the community.

Who came together to rebuild the collapsed bridge through a communal labor.

However, Mr Kampala and the residents were informed to halt the work on the bridge by the Member of Parliament for the Torbu Constituency, Mr Moses Anim.

Who threatened to arrest anyone who attempts building the bridge without his consent.

According to Mr Kampala, Mr Moses’ driver brought some boards, wood and carpenters to adjust the bridge.

And till date, the bridge is still a wooden bridge which stands no chance of lasting for years.

Nana Otu Darko Jnr, a mid-morning political show host on Light TV, during the ‘Edeka’ show, descended on Mr Moses Anim which drew the attention of many people to the need of the residents of Abensu.
