Ghana has deported three Israeli nationals in what government officials describe as a reciprocal action against the “ill-treatment and unjustified deportation” of Ghanaian citizens by Israeli authorities. The move, announced in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 10, 2025, is intended to uphold the dignity of Ghanaians abroad and signal Ghana’s refusal to tolerate disrespect toward its nationals.
According to the statement, three Ghanaians were recently deported from Israel under circumstances the government described as unacceptable. In response, Ghana swiftly expelled three Israeli nationals who had just arrived in the country, implementing what the Ministry called an appropriate and proportionate diplomatic measure.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, who posted the full statement on his Facebook page, noted that “the government of Ghana has been compelled to activate appropriate reciprocal action by deporting three Israelis who arrived in Ghana earlier today following the ill-treatment and unwarranted deportation of three Ghanaians. Both governments have now agreed to an amicable resolution.”
The statement added that the Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Israel was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the absence of Israel’s Ambassador to Ghana. The two governments, according to the Ministry, have since agreed to work toward resolving the matter peacefully.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to defending the dignity of Ghanaian citizens wherever they may be, emphasizing that foreign nationals visiting Ghana are also entitled to respect, just as Ghana expects its people to be treated abroad.
“The Government of Ghana will continue to safeguard the dignity of its nationals and also that of other nationals,” the statement read. It added that Ghana values its longstanding relations with friendly nations but expects mutual respect and fair treatment in all diplomatic engagements.
