Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that 57 radio stations risk having their frequencies suspended for violating regulatory requirements.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, March 24, the Minister explained that the suspension is not a revocation but an opportunity for affected stations to rectify their breaches and comply with regulations.
He also noted that six stations had already been suspended in the first phase of enforcement, and out of these, three have submitted the necessary documentation for their frequencies to be restored.
“The other six stations are part of a total of about 63 radio stations whose frequencies are not going to be revoked but are going to be suspended. We suspended the first six because we cannot have a situation where media houses flout regulations and claim press freedom excuses them from meeting license conditions,” he stated.
He further assured that once the affected stations meet the required regulatory standards, their operations will be reinstated.
