258 Ghanaians Deported from the US Over Four Years as ICE Increases Enforcement

Between 2021 and 2024, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported a total of 258 Ghanaian nationals, according to the agency’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) statistics.

The deportations were due to various offenses, including criminal convictions and other immigration violations. Affected individuals were removed from cities and states such as Newark (25), New Orleans (23), Philadelphia (22), Atlanta (21), San Diego (11), and Washington, D.C. (10).

The annual breakdown reveals that 56 Ghanaians were deported in 2021, 46 in 2022, 62 in 2023, and 94 in 2024.

For comparison, 417 Nigerian nationals were deported during the same period, while 206,943 Mexicans were removed in total.

ICE has yet to release data for 2025 regarding the nationalities of those detained or removed.

The agency’s increased operations are part of a broader strategy to enforce immigration laws and safeguard public safety and national security. ICE has emphasized that its focus is on removing “potentially dangerous criminal aliens” from communities.

This approach has been particularly strong during the Trump administration, with large-scale operations targeting individuals with criminal backgrounds. Notably, ICE reported 956 arrests in a single-day operation last Sunday, marking the largest such action under the Trump administration.
