2025 AFCONQ: Mohammed Kudus Apologizes After Black Stars’ Shocking Defeat to Sudan

Mohammed Kudus, captain of Ghana’s Black Stars in the absence of Thomas Partey, has publicly apologized following the team’s shocking 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The loss in Libya on Tuesday followed a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving Ghana in a difficult position in their qualifying campaign.

In his apology, Kudus expressed regret for the team’s poor performance, stating, “As someone who led the team in both games, I am issuing this statement with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility. On behalf of the entire team, I extend our sincerest apologies to the people of Ghana for our recent performances against Sudan in Accra and Libya.”

The West Ham United player assured fans that the Black Stars are committed to learning from their mistakes and working hard to improve, saying, “We want to assure Ghanaians that we are dedicated to learning from our mistakes, regrouping, and working tirelessly to bring the Black Stars back to our former glory.”

Ghana currently sits third in Group F with only two points from four matches, putting their AFCON qualification hopes in jeopardy for the first time in 20 years. To qualify for the tournament in Morocco, they must win their remaining games against Niger and Angola in November and hope Sudan loses their upcoming matches.
