A final pre-election poll by Global InfoAnalytics reveals that John Dramani Mahama, leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), holds a commanding lead in the 2024 presidential race. Mahama currently leads with 51.1% of committed voters, while his closest competitor, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), trails with 37.3%.
The survey also highlights the growing influence of independent candidates, with Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten securing 4.1% and Nana Kwame Bediako garnering 6.2%. Other candidates make up the remaining 1.3%.
Even under the unweighted likely voters’ model, Mahama maintains a lead, holding 49.3% against Bawumia’s 35.9%. The poll identifies voter apathy as a key issue for the NPP, with 16% of potential non-voters being NPP supporters, compared to only 3% for the NDC. Floating voters, making up 38%, heavily favor Mahama, who leads by 31 points (54% to 23%).
Mahama also commands support in 12 out of Ghana’s 16 regions, including Greater Accra, Central, and Bono. Meanwhile, Bawumia is leading in four regions, including Ashanti and Eastern. Independent candidates Kyeremanten and Bediako are also cutting into Bawumia’s base, particularly in the Ashanti region.
Key voter issues include the economy (70%), jobs (62%), and education (48%). With widespread dissatisfaction regarding the country’s direction—62% of voters believe Ghana is headed in the wrong direction—Mahama is positioned as the front-runner going into the December elections.
