In the upcoming 13th African Games Male Football Competition, Ghana’s national under-20 football team, the Black Satellites, will face formidable opponents in Group A. The draw has pitted them against Benin, Congo, and The Gambia in a challenging group stage.
Scheduled to kick off in Accra from March 8–23, 2024, the African Games will see Ghana aiming to defend their title. Currently in camp at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, coach Desmond Ofei is rigorously preparing the team for the highly anticipated competition.
Ghana, the reigning champion, secured victory in the 2011 edition held in Maputo, Mozambique. In a thrilling final, they triumphed over South Africa, prevailing 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has determined that the eight quarterfinalists from the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt 2023, including Nigeria, Benin, Congo, Gambia, Senegal, South Sudan, Tunisia, and Uganda, along with the host country Ghana, will qualify for the African Games.
Mirroring the TotalEnergies U-20 AFCON, the same age category will be applied for the African Games Male Competition. In Group B, Nigeria, South Sudan, Tunisia, Senegal, and Uganda are set to face off in what promises to be another exciting battle for supremacy.
