11 Suspects Arrested Over Asemko-Butre Violent Clash in Western Region

The has disclosed that 11 suspects have been arrested in connection with the violent clash that occurred six months ago between residents of Asemko and Butre in the .

The incident resulted in the death of 45-year-old and left several others injured, including the Chief of Butre, .

Speaking during a visit to the Butre community to update the chief and residents on the progress of the investigation, the Regional Minister assured residents that authorities remain committed to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.

“As we speak, 11 individuals have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with investigations, and interestingly, the last suspect was apprehended in ,” he stated.

Mr. Nelson also noted that the arrests demonstrate the determination of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure accountability.

“We have our eyes wide open, and we are determined to bring anyone who had a hand in this case to justice,” he emphasised.

During the meeting, Nana Egya Butsia X appealed to the government to establish a permanent security post in the community to help prevent future conflicts.

According to the chief, the community currently faces challenges in accessing security services due to the distance from the municipal capital.

“My elders, the security forces, and I are doing our best to protect lives and property, but the truth is, we are working with a weak security system,” he said.

He added that it is often difficult for residents to travel to the municipal capital to report crimes, and by the time security personnel arrive, the damage may already have been done.

Residents also echoed the chief’s appeal, urging the government to set up a security post in the area to protect lives and property and prevent further violent incidents.
