Wife of Late TB Joshua Encourages Church to Stay Focus Amidst BBC Documentary

TB Joshua’s wife Evelyn Joshua

In her first public address since the release of the BBC Africa Eye documentary, “Disciples: The Cult of TB Joshua,” Pastor Evelyn Joshua, leader of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), urged members to remain faithful and focused on Jesus Christ. The documentary featured former disciples accusing the late prophet of misconduct, including rape, physical abuse, and coercion for abortions.

Addressing the congregation on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria, Pastor Evelyn did not directly reference the allegations but expressed gratitude for the members’ love and faith during the “eventful week.” Emphasizing core beliefs, she encouraged evaluating all things in the light of God’s word and highlighted the importance of love, quoting 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

Urging members not to lose focus, she reminded them of Jesus Christ as their central guide, quoting her late husband’s alleged last words: “Watch and pray, and you will see the glory of God.” Despite facing opposition and questions about legitimacy, Pastor Evelyn, appointed leader in September 2021, asserted her authority.

TB Joshua, a controversial figure who claimed the power to heal diseases and prophesy, died at 57 in June 2021. The BBC documentary has sparked renewed debate over his legacy, the future of SCOAN, and broader issues of accountability in the Nigerian and African religious landscape.
