WHO has already estimated the total number of people that may die of this deadly virus;coronavirus. Despite the current cases of COVID-19 and deaths in Africa in relation to other parts of the world. World Health Organisation, believes about 190,000 people may die in the continent if pandemic is not properly managed.
“Eighty-three thousand to 190 000 people in Africa could die of COVID-19 and 29 million to 44 million could get infected in the first year of the pandemic if containment measures fail,” the study said
Data from Worldometer records 2127 deaths in Africa, with Egypt leading 495, Algeria 490 and Morroco 183. Nigeria has recorded over 100 fatalities. As the cases increases by the day and it would require hospitalisation which medical capacity in Africa may not be able to contained with the virus.
Countries across Africa need to expand their capacities particularly in primary hospitals. This will ensure that basic emergency care is included in primary health systems.
Finally, It is important to provide effective methods in orther to sustained and widespread transmission of the virus. So it would not severely overwhelm the health system.
