Virgin Atlantic has announced its return to Ghana with the reintroduction of daily flights between Accra and London Heathrow, starting in May 2025. This marks the airline’s first operation on this route since 2013, aiming to enhance competition and offer more travel options for passengers.
The new service is a response to the increasing demand for travel between Ghana and the UK, which is home to the third-largest Ghanaian diaspora globally. The route will also facilitate connections through London to various US destinations, including New York, Boston, Washington DC, Miami, and Los Angeles.
From May 1, 2025, Virgin Atlantic will operate the daily flights using Airbus A330-300 and A330-900neo aircraft, featuring Upper Class, Premium, and Economy cabins. The flights will also include an onboard social space and offer 30 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight, supporting the transport of goods like fresh produce between Ghana and key markets in the UK and US.
Virgin Atlantic, founded by Sir Richard Branson in 1984, is recognized for its innovation and customer service. The airline is a member of the Skyteam alliance and offers passengers complimentary food, drink, and entertainment, along with fully connected Wi-Fi on all flights.
Commenting on the relaunch, Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer of Virgin Atlantic, said, “The UK is home to the third largest Ghanaian diaspora in the world, and we see huge opportunities to connect friends, relatives, and businesses with our new service, as well as providing much-needed competition and choice on the Accra to London route.”
Virgin Atlantic was recently recognized as Britain’s only Global Five Star Airline by APEX for the eighth consecutive year and holds a five-star rating from SkyTrax.
