Independent Power Producers have declared that they cannot promise an uninterrupted power supply if government refuses to pay a debt of GH₵1.4bn “as soon as possible”.
Mr. Elikplim K. Apetorgbor, the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Independent Power Producers, Power Distribution Companies and Bulk Consumers, Ghana (CIPBiD), mentioned on The Citizen Show to Kwabena Bobie Ansah on 25th July, 2020 that he prays the debt is settled shortly.
CIPBiD made a statement before the mid-year budget review which read, “government’s cumulative indebtedness to them is compelling them to contract costly loans to sustain their generations”.
The statement continued, “This situation is grim and there is a real danger of IPPs shutting their plants if the situation is not resolved in the immediate term.”
