The son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, 19-year-old Marco Troper, was discovered deceased in his dorm room at the University of California, Berkeley. The tragic news was confirmed by his grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Troper, a freshman majoring in math, was found unconscious at the Clark Kerr Campus, a student housing facility, on Tuesday afternoon. Despite efforts by the Berkeley Fire Department to revive him, he was pronounced dead upon the arrival of campus police.
Esther Wojcicki described Marco as a kind, loving, and smart individual who was just beginning to explore his academic passions at Berkeley. She also mentioned his strong community of friends, both from his dorm and his fraternity.
While the cause of Troper’s death has not been officially determined, Esther Wojcicki expressed suspicion that he may have passed away due to a drug overdose. The family is awaiting the results of a toxicology report.
In the wake of this tragedy, Esther Wojcicki emphasized the importance of preventing similar incidents, stating, “We want to prevent this from happening to any other family.” The loss of Marco Troper has left his family devastated, mourning the life experiences and opportunities that he will never have.
