Tragedy as 7 Fishermen Gone Missing in Ada

Fishermen in Ada, part of the Greater Accra Region, are facing a troubling situation after two fishing canoes and some crew members went missing during a recent fishing trip. The crew embarked on their journey on September 13, 2023, but as they returned early the next morning, their canoes capsized near the estuary while attempting to enter the Volta River.

Out of the 19 fishermen involved in this incident, seven were still unaccounted for as of 6:30 pm on that Thursday. The Ada East District NADMO Coordinator, Ebenezer Teye Kisseh Nartey, confirmed the occurrence and stated that NADMO received a distress call at 7 am on Thursday regarding the accident involving the two canoes.

Mr. Nartey reported that ten out of eleven fishermen on one of the canoes named “Shalom” were rescued, while two out of eight crew members on another canoe named “Barcelona” were located in a neighboring community in the Volta Region. Unfortunately, six other fishermen from the second canoe remained missing.
