The Wenchi Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Issah Abdul Wahab, has remanded three individuals into police custody on charges of theft. The accused, Adu Joel (18), Appau Richmond (21), and Patrick Boateng (21), face multiple charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry, and stealing, all contrary to various sections of the Criminal and Other Offences Act 29/60.
The incident occurred on May 31, 2024, in the low-cost area of Wenchi Municipality. The accused allegedly broke into the room of Erica Fosua, a nurse, while she was on night duty at Wenchi Methodist Hospital. They reportedly stole items valued at GH¢ 5,700, including a double bed latex foam mattress, gas cylinder, rice cookers, pillows, an air fryer, a bread toaster, onions, and cooking oil.
Police prosecutor Detective Inspector Owusu Mensah informed the court that the complainant discovered the theft upon returning from her shift and reported the incident to the Wenchi police. During the investigation, another resident, Takyi Richard, reported the theft of two mattresses from his room. This led to the arrest of Joel, who confessed to the crime and implicated his accomplices, Richmond and Boateng.
Recovered stolen items included the double bed latex foam mattress, two electric rice cookers, and a bread toaster. The prosecutor requested the court to remand the accused to allow for further investigation, a plea which was granted. The case has been adjourned to Thursday, August 29, 2024.
