Three Arrested for Allegedly Stealing a Day-Old Baby  in Kasoa

Police have detained three individuals in Kasoa, Central Region, on suspicion of stealing a baby.

The suspects are accused of faking the baby’s death and transporting her to Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region.

The suspects, identified as Magdalene Nana Adwoa Boafo, 28, Faustina Binney, 32, and Eunice Koomson, a 36-year-old teacher at Ebenezer High Academy, a private school in Ofaakor, are currently being held by the Kasoa Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigation.

Sources reveal that Nana Adwoa Boafo, the main suspect, approached the baby’s mother, who sells sachet water in traffic at Ofaakor in Kasoa, during her eighth month of pregnancy and offered financial assistance.

Boafo later introduced the mother to the other suspects, Eunice and Faustina, who posed as genuine supporters.

To conceal their intentions, the suspects relocated the mother from Ofaakor-Jei River and rented an apartment for her at Lamptey, a suburb of Adam Nana in Kasoa, continuing their support until she gave birth at Kasoa Polyclinic on July 10, 2024.

The situation escalated after the mother, 29-year-old Abigail Addison, and her healthy newborn were discharged from the clinic.

The suspects introduced another woman to Abigail, claiming she was a medical staff member at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra and recommended that the baby be taken there for treatment due to supposed infections, which Abigail believed.

Two days later, the suspects returned to Abigail, tearfully claiming that the baby had died at Korle-Bu and had been buried.

The victim’s landlord, suspicious of their behavior, reported the incident.

The efforts of Kasoa DOVVSU commander DSP Doris Laryea and other individuals led to the arrest of Nana Adwoa, who had suspiciously resigned from her job in Ofaakor, the only place the victim could trace her.

Initially, Nana Adwoa claimed the baby was dead, but under further questioning, she admitted the baby was alive and with her sister in Madina. She later changed her story, stating the baby was with the second suspect, Eunice, in Alico City, Ofaakor.

Eunice, once arrested, revealed that the third suspect, Faustina Binney, residing in Ablekuma, had the baby, leading to Faustina’s arrest as well.

The traumatised mother, Abigail Addison, seeks justice and punishment for the suspects involved.
