Three Americans have been implicated in a failed coup attempt in the Democratic Republic of Congo, resulting in multiple fatalities.
The Congolese military reported that they thwarted the coup near the presidential palace. Among the 50 individuals involved, three Americans were detained.
One of these Americans, a 36-year-old born in Maryland, has had their passport widely circulated online. The U.S. Ambassador to Congo, Lucy Tamlyn, has confirmed the involvement of U.S. citizens in a recent statement.
The coup was reportedly orchestrated by Christian Malanga, a U.S.-based Congolese politician. Malanga was killed at the presidential palace while resisting arrest.
