Take Advantage of the Limited Voter’s Registration Exercise: Bawumia to Eligible Ghanaians

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has encouraged eligible Ghanaian voters, including newly turned 18-year-olds and adults who haven’t registered, to make use of the Limited Voter Registration process that began on September 12. This registration is taking place at all Electoral Commission district offices throughout the country. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the first step in exercising the fundamental right to vote is registering with the Electoral Commission (EC). He urged citizens to actively participate in this process to ensure their eligibility for the upcoming 2024 elections, underscoring the importance of civic engagement and voter registration in enabling democratic participation.

Despite facing legal challenges from several political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the EC is proceeding with the Limited Voters Registration Exercise as scheduled until October 2, 2023. Eligible individuals who turned 18 since the last registration in 2020 or those who didn’t register for various reasons are encouraged to visit their District Office for registration. They can use either their Ghana Card or Ghana Passport for identification, and in cases where they lack these documents, they can be vouched for by two registered voters to facilitate their registration. The political parties challenging the EC’s decision argue that limiting the voter registration to district offices may disenfranchise eligible voters, particularly those in remote areas.
