The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has released a second list of student loan defaulters and their guarantors as part of an intensified nationwide effort to recover unpaid loans.
Published in the May 30, 2025 edition of the Daily Graphic, the list includes over 100 individuals who, according to SLTF, have failed to meet their loan repayment obligations despite repeated notices and reminders.
Each entry on the list details the borrower’s full name, tertiary institution, year of completion, total amount owed with interest, and the names of their guarantors.
The SLTF emphasized that all listed individuals had violated the repayment terms, which typically require beneficiaries to begin repayment after completing their studies, national service, and an additional one-year grace period. The loan agreement allows for up to eight years for full repayment, depending on the borrower’s program of study.
Citing a prior demand notice issued on March 5, 2024, SLTF warned that defaulters who fail to settle their debts within one month of publication would face legal action without further notice.
Some borrowers owe over GHS 30,000, including accrued interest. The list includes graduates from various institutions such as the University of Ghana, KNUST, University of Cape Coast, University for Development Studies, and other public and private tertiary institutions.
One defaulter from the University of Mines and Technology, who completed in 2008, owes GHS 14,248.34, while another from KNUST owes GHS 36,346.99 from a loan dating back to 2011.
The SLTF’s public naming strategy aims to increase recovery rates by applying social and legal pressure. Guarantors listed alongside defaulters may also be held liable for the outstanding amounts.
The Fund encouraged borrowers needing assistance to visit the SLTF website or contact their customer care center. Officials hinted that more lists may follow if repayment compliance does not improve.
