The illegal miners, armed with locally crafted rifles, pump-action guns, machetes, and other tools, reportedly opened fire on a military patrol team conducting Operation HALT II duties. The soldiers retaliated in self-defense, resulting in the deaths of seven miners. One soldier sustained injuries from pellets but has since received medical attention.

During the operation, the military recovered six pump-action BB cartridges from the scene.

The GAF underscored their mandate to use necessary force, including lethal measures, to protect themselves, civilians, and property while carrying out authorized duties. They cautioned illegal miners against encroaching on mining concessions or engaging in armed confrontations, warning that such actions could have grave consequences.
