Sekondi-Takoradi Residents Take to the Streets to Protest Over Poor Roads

Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region have taken to the streets to voice their grievances concerning poor road conditions, underdevelopment, and what they perceive as ineffective governance. The protest, known as ‘Sekondi-Takoradi Deserves Better,’ was organized by the Concerned Youth of Sekondi-Takoradi and aimed to draw attention to the issues they face.

Demonstrators, donning black and red attire, carried placards with messages such as “Takoradi Deserves Better,” “We Are Tired of Poor Leadership,” and “Fix Our Bad Roads.” They expressed dissatisfaction with the state of roads, lack of development, and what they perceive as inadequate leadership in the region.

Mr. Samuel Gyimah, the Convener of the Concerned Youth of Sekondi-Takoradi, explained that their decision to protest was motivated by the prolonged neglect of their area. He cited a range of problems, including deteriorating roads, malfunctioning hospitals, inoperative traffic lights, and inadequate street lighting, leading to a lack of security in the evenings.

Gyimah expressed the need to question their leaders about their commitment to truth and the fulfillment of citizens’ rights. He highlighted the dire state of roads, rising unemployment, and a general decline in development as key issues driving the protest.

One of the protesters, Philip Fiifi Buckman, called on authorities to address the deplorable road conditions in the region. He emphasized that despite the Western Region, with Sekondi-Takoradi as its capital, contributing significantly to the country’s development, the area’s infrastructure had been left in disrepair, prompting the need for the protest.
