Savannah Regional Minister Takes Initiative to Relocate Flood Victims

In a proactive response to the plight of over 1,000 flood victims in the Central Gonja District, the Savannah Regional Minister, Saeed Jibril, has announced plans to engage with local traditional authorities in Buipe. The objective of this engagement is to secure land for the relocation of those affected by recent heavy rainfall, which has left them displaced and without electricity.

The relentless downpours in the past few weeks have brought about a severe humanitarian crisis, with families forced to abandon their homes due to flooding. The dire situation has also resulted in the disruption of electricity supply to these affected communities, compounding the challenges faced by the flood victims.

After a thorough assessment of the situation, Regional Minister Saeed Jibril affirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the crisis promptly. He directed the District Chief Executive to initiate discussions with the leaders of the Buipe Traditional Area, with the primary aim of securing suitable land for the relocation of the affected families.

“I interacted with them. You can clearly see that they are ready to move, so we have to facilitate land for them to be able to move,” Minister Jibril remarked during his visit to the affected areas. “So, I have asked the District Chief Executive to speak with the overlord of the Buipe Traditional Area. And I know the caliber of chief he is; he is going to be willing to give the people some land for the people to start some construction.”

Moreover, the Regional Minister emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring a smooth and efficient relocation process. It is not only about securing land but also providing the necessary support to make the transition as seamless as possible. The goal is to prevent a recurrence of this distressing situation in the coming years.

“However, we are also going to look at how we can help as a government to ensure that this relocation happens smoothly so that next year we wouldn’t face this problem,” Minister Jibril added, underlining the government’s proactive stance in addressing the urgent needs of the flood victims.

As discussions with the traditional authorities commence, there is hope that this collaborative effort will lead to the swift relocation of the affected families, offering them a fresh start and much-needed relief from the challenges they currently face.
