President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). As part of his new role, Mr. Gyamfi has been assigned the critical task of establishing the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a flagship initiative from the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.
Under the directive of the Minister of Finance, Mr. Gyamfi will lead the formation of the GoldBod, which aims to:
- Formalize the small-scale gold mining sector.
- Enhance sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources.
- Provide support services for the mining industry.
The GoldBod is a cornerstone of the Mahama administration’s economic revitalization agenda, focusing on maximizing the benefits of Ghana’s gold resources for its citizens.
Sammy Gyamfi is a lawyer and economic policy analyst with an extensive academic and professional background, including:
- BSc in Environmental Science and Bachelor of Law (LLB) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
- Barrister at Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law.
- MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana.
- Executive Certificates in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership from Harvard Kennedy School.
He has prior experience in Ghana’s mining sector, having worked with Exton Cubic Group Limited, and serves as the National Communications Officer for the NDC.
The establishment of the Ghana Gold Board aligns with efforts to formalize and improve the mining sector, ensuring sustainable practices while driving economic growth.
